Performance That Inspires Confidence

The Marex 440 Series is America’s new favorite family yacht

Published: Sunday, December 21, 2025 9:00 am

In the world of modern cruising yachts, few builders have captured attention like Marex. With the 440 series, the Norwegian brand offers two distinct interpretations of the same hull: the Gourmet Cruiser, with its unrivaled full-salon galley, and the Scandinavia, optimized for extended voyages.

The Marex 440 is not simply another new model—it is a defining expression of what a modern family yacht can be. By uniting comfort, performance, and Scandinavian design integrity, Marex has crafted a family boat that feels both timeless and forward-looking. For today’s discerning owners, it stands as one of the most compelling choices in the mid-size cruising segment for today’s modern boating lifestyle.

Two Distinct Interpretations of Luxury

Since its introduction to the U.S. market this past March, the Marex 440 has seen an incredible surge in popularity, capturing the attention of discerning boaters across North America. Both models share a seaworthy 44-foot-9-inch length with a 14-foot beam, 3-foot-3-inch draft, and Class B offshore certification. The Gourmet Cruiser is a floating culinary stage, designed for entertaining at sea. The Scandinavia emphasizes versatile cabin arrangements, with either two- or three-cabin layouts for extended cruising.

The 440 impressed during sea trials with confident tracking through chop, smooth banking in turns, and minimal spray. Noise and vibration remain low even above 30 knots, allowing comfortable conversation at speed. Regardless of engine, helm response and maneuverability are praised.

Craftsmanship and Fit & Finish

Marex was founded and remains based in Norway and has been designing and building luxury family boats for 52 years. Production takes place in Lithuania, a country with a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and boat building. This Scandinavian precision is evident throughout with flawless teak decking, solid stainless fittings, and refined joinery. Thermally treated ash wood is used for the interior decking, ensuring durability and resistance to wear. Marex utilizes Alcantara material for upholstery, while cabinetry and trim are available in both teak and walnut finishes. Other details, such as hidden LED lighting beneath the cockpit’s teak railing, highlight the brand’s attention to ambiance and usability.

The Gourmet Cruiser’s salon galley sets a new standard in its class, while the Scandinavia version trades galley space for expanded salon seating and entertaining space. Both variants exude warmth, practicality, and premium detail.

Why the 440 Series Fits the U.S. Market

Unlike many European imports that lean toward performance or style at the expense of practicality, the 440 is dedicated to the way families actually use their boats, spending time together, entertaining, and cruising safely in comfort. Its availability with a variety of inboard power options, from IPS to stern drives, ensures that owners can select the propulsion system that best matches their boating preferences. The Marex 440 series fills an important gap in the U.S. market: a true family-focused luxury yacht that blends Scandinavian design with the flexibility American buyers expect.
