South Shore Marine (SSM) was founded in 1989 as a service company in Huron, OH with a tag line “First Class Boats”. Having grown up in a boating family, founder Tom Mack had a passion and love for the lake, boating and he was washing boats by age ten; cleaning boats became a summer job for over 10 years. In the 1990’s, SSM became a premier service provider that grew strong thanks to a core group of talented team members and a very loyal customer base.
As the company gained a strong name for high-quality marine service, SSM naturally moved into boat sales, starting with pre-owned in the early 1990’s. Capitalizing on its strong service background, SSM quickly became known for its exceptionally clean, well-prepared pre-owned inventory and brokerage listings. In 1996, the company entered the new boat business by becoming the regional dealer for Carolina Classic. Additional brands were added in the early to mid 2000’s including Contender, Rampage and Scout. Today SSM continues to offer select brokerage and certified trades, plus premium new brands: Pursuit, Grady-White, Regal, Sportsman. Yamaha and Mercury are the main engine partners. These top-notch manufacturers all “match” the culture of excellence and quality. Market share numbers for each brand are consistently very strong.
This strong culture of high-quality customer service has set SSM apart from the beginning. In more recent years, South Shore Marine was acquired by OneWater Marine in 2017. With the anticipation of growth and opportunity through the acquisition, this has held true and we continue to predict expansion and growth in the future of the marine industry. South Shore Marine currently employs over 50 key individuals who add to our daily success. Examples of this are shown by being awarded the following: Grady-White Boats Admiral’s Circle – Excellence in Sales & Service, CSI Platinum Club by Regal Boats, Top 10 and Flagship Dealer – Pursuit Boats, Five Star Certified Dealership.
We invite all who are in the area to stop and take a look at our modernized and state of the art facility. This would include our highway showroom, which was completed in late 2017 with 15,000 sq. ft. of boat display space as well as new sales offices and a welcome / reception area.
