Walstrom Evaluating Marina Development for Acquired West Bay Property

Published: Friday, October 3, 2025 10:00 am

Walstrom Marine is pleased to announce that Far Side Properties, working in collaboration with Walstrom, has acquired the Viridian commercial office building at 13561 South West Bay Shore Drive. Exact plans for the site are still to be determined, as Far Side and Walstrom have been in conversations with other nearby property owners. Ideas during the project’s exploration have ranged from a full-scale marina with facilities to a mixed-use development with condominiums and a private marina. Walstrom and Far Side have held preliminary discussions with the community and actively seek more input around community interests and potential features as part of the development.

“Living and working in the Grand Traverse area, we know that lake access for boaters has reached a critical status. Folks are waiting upwards of a decade to get a slip,” said Kyle Oleson, General Manager of  Walstrom Marine in Traverse City. “We want to be part of the solution.”

Tom Ervin, President of Walstrom Marine, added, “Our team has been working on this project for nearly 18 months. Admittedly, it is a complex, challenging project, but seeing the positive impact it could have by meeting community needs and supporting the transformation of this immediate area, it’s definitely worth the effort. We are excited to see this project come to life.”

Walstrom Marine intends to partner with a local developer for non-marina features of a future development. In the meantime, the Viridian remains open and will continue to operate as a commercial office building.

Walstrom Marine has been in business for over 75 years and represents brands like Chris Craft, Pursuit, Regal, Sea Ray, and Tiara.
